Almost Finished Cut

After discussing the changes that needed to be made to our documentary with my group, I set about editing the project as if it were the first part of Drew's short rise to fame, as opposed to the entire re-telling. In this edit I added the new interview with Lucy, added another Taylor Swift song, (Love Story), which I used for background noise, added new voice-over recording, put in our GCSE music video, 'Fifteen', as Drew's debut single, removed the credits and added the 'End of Part One' title at the end of the video.

Below is a print screen of the recently edited video exporting in Premiere:

Final Production Ideas

As we are approaching the final cut deadline, my group and I have decided that our project should not be the whole documentary, but just the first section. After watching many Channel 4 documentaries, I have noticed that a lot of them adhere to the same sectioned structure which is used to signal the advert break. Taking this into consideration, I have decided to remove the end credits and put in an 'End of Part One' title shot instead. This will be used to signify the end of our video, and suggest to the audience that the footage shown is only part of Drew Taylor's short rise to fame.

A New Cut

After having a discussion with my group, we decided that we needed to include more information about Drew's childhood, as opposed to just focusing on her life of fame. During the lesson, Meg suggested that she could be interviewed as Drew's mum and give the audience an insight into how Drew's passion for music started at a very early age.

Once I had transferred the new footage of Meg's interview, (which we filmed in the Common Room), over to my home laptop, I started going about making our documentary more concise and compact, taking on board feedback of the previous cut from my group.

Sections left to film:
  • Re-do interview with Meg - maybe have her sitting on a sofa with old photographs of Gemma sitting next to her on the windowsill.
  • Re-do interview with Lucy - maybe have Gemma sitting next to her, with photographs of them both in the background.

DVD Cover Design

Today I decided to finish the DVD cover that I had started editing in Photoshop several weeks ago. I wanted the design to reflect the nature of our documentary, so I included numerous photographs and screenshots, as well as incorporating the typical features of a DVD cover.

Below is what I managed to edit:

Updated Schedule

After exporting the Final Cut Trial, I decided to make a new production schedule for between now and the final cut. It simply outlines what still needs to be done before completion:

Final Cut Trial

After editing the new World Tour poster, I decided to add it to the documentary credits, and, after altering some other aspects of the video, I exported a nearly finished cut. We still need around 10 more seconds of footage and a meaningful voice over before the credits, so that we develop a sense of completion for the audience. Again, Blogger doesn't seem able to upload our video, so I decided to take print screens of some of the new footage:

World Tour Poster

During the week I did a photo-shoot with Gemma for a potential poster, promoting Drew Taylor's World Tour. I wanted this to go in at the end of our documentary and be shown whilst the credits are running.

Below is the photo I chose to work with for the poster:

Using this photo, I designed a poster in Photoshop, using the sharpening tool to enhance the photograph:

Most Recent Cut

After doing some more filming over the previous week, I decided to do some more editing of our documentary in order to make it look more complete, and easier for us to identify missing shots. Unfortunately, Blogger won't upload our video.

Filming Progress

After our Media lesson today, my group and I decided to do some filming for the 'Fearless' music video in The Priory. We could only film two shots today because we needed our actors to be in different clothes for the rest of the filming; our actress for Drew is dreaming about her lover, and there is a flashback to a scene with her and her lover dancing around the room together in a candlelit room with roses and champagne. We intend to film this dancing scene soon at someone's house. For now, here are some pictures of us capturing the two shots:

Half Term Update

Unfortunately, over the Half Term holiday, my team and I did not manage to do any more filming for our documentary, due to me going on holiday, Tom being ill, Gemma being busy, and the weather being too poor. Having said this, I have managed to edit all of the shots and audio that we have captured so far, so that when we go back to school, we can film and edit the last few shots, ready for the final cut.
